After each game finalizes, we compare the outcome to the pre-game odds. Beating expectations moves a team's rating up; underperforming moves it down. Each team starts at 2000, and ratings accumulate game-by-game throughout the season. Updates happen automatically after games finalize.A few data points we found interesting:Polymarket odds are pretty accurate on average: teams priced at 80%+ won 82% of the time (119 games), and teams priced 60–69% won 63%.Biggest overperformer: Phoenix Suns, +14.7% vs expectations (market gave them 45.8% avg odds; they won 60.5%).Most overrated by market: Cleveland Cavaliers — 55.8% win rate but market gave them 67.4% implied. This avoids API costs, rate limits, and network dependency.Why build another reverse geocoder?Most offline reverse geocoders rely on nearest-neighbor lookups. While fast, this approach often fails near borders because the closest location is not always the correct administrative region. This project focuses on correctness over proximity by verifying which boundary a coordinate actually falls inside.How does it work?A KD-Tree is used to quickly shortlist nearby administrative boundaries. For those candidates, the system performs polygon containment checks to confirm the true region. I wanted to roll my own high performance server that could handle a lot, mostly for the technical challenge but also because it brings down hosting costs.At the core is a hand made TCP server where a single thread handles all I/O via epoll, distributing the events to a pool of worker threads. I wanted something with zero boilerplate that would be a natural fit for algorithmic expression. For me, writing programs that say how to move a "pen" around in 3d space was more intuitive than e.g. writing pixel shaders.The format is inspired by Logo/Turtle, and somewhat mimics how a 3d printer works in that Laser-Tracer programs are G-Code like: the fundamental operation is depositing points; from there we get 'traces' specified by either relative (pen.traceBy(x,y,z)) or absolute destinations (pen.traceTo(x,y,z)).
