Efficient gas boiler with real-time dataI would like to share with you the real time performance of my condensing gas boiler, managed by SAT and OpenTherm. Many gas boilers are oversized which means it's more difficult to run them efficiently. Also, many gas boilers have capability to run more efficiently but are not configured to.This particular boiler does not seem to respect the MM=0 command (despite OpenTherm's such specification requirement) which is not uncommon. SAT sends the MM=0 command for the boiler to work at its minimum capacity. CS= minimum_setpoint and then PWM controls the ON/OFF times of the boiler. However, I have a workaround which ensures that most of the time, the boiler is indeed working at its minimum modulation, unless the target flow (heating curve + PID) demand is high [higher than current flow temperature] during warm up.The boiler supplies heat to the central heating and domestic hot water tank, but not at the same time. The hot water tank capacity is 255 litres. When DHW call is made, boiler ignor

Show HN: Tailor – Web extension for measuring and inspecting elementsHey HN,Tailor is a developer tool that aims to simplify inspecting spacings, distances between elements, and fonts on websites. Our QA does a lot of checks to ensure that spacings, paddings, and font sizes match the designs. So I thought there should be an easier way. Honestly, I would expect something like this to be built inside the browser inspector. It is available as a browser extension (Firefox and Chrome) and as a library. You can load it as a bookmarklet too, but I found the extension more convenient. You can try it live on its homepage.I want to add a way to take screenshots while the overlay is visible (useful when reporting an issue) and a few minor tweaks. It is open-source and written in TypeScript. For issues and feature requests, please use GitHub:https://github.com/Stanko/tailor/It doesn’t track anything nor uses any user data, and it is going to stay that way.Let me know what you think, thanks!

Ask HN: To what extent is an effectively cooperative global community an utopia?HN do you think it's possible to have a global community in which people from richer countries would be truly compelled or wanted to share their resources with people in a far away land, (i.e. not as much as in their local communities but much more than now) ? For example in case of draught based hunger, rising sea levels because of climate change, oil tanker spill etc.Especially in case of climate change, where consequences come relatively slowly.Context: I read developed countries are helping but they do not have a sense of urgency as it is happening far away. In other words"out of sight, out of mind".Humans mostly agree on what constituts suffering and pain while there are many definitions of happiness.I am thinking that in very simplified terms, emotions are "weights" to data in our neurophysiology. Similarly as nods in neural network have weights to them.I feel a stronger connection to people I personally know and whom I can experience with my physical senses. This feeling of conn

Ask HN: I love programming, but I want to learn *everything* about my van. Tips?I'm in my thirties and never owned a car until I got this campervan. So now not only do I have this magical machine that can take me places in ways that I never quite appreciated before, but said machine is also my home, magically offering water via an electric pump, electricity via a secondary battery that should but doesn't charge when driving, and various other comforts.I'm sure this might sound silly to those for whom cars are a part of daily life, but when I'm driving, just the engine sound and the terrible smell of what is either the toilet/gray waste tank sloshing or something related to the engine, well, it's intoxicating. And I don't know if it's because it's an older vehicle (late 80s), but I basically go to fifth and final gear by 80 Km/h, so it feels like the thing is on overdrive whenever I'm going 100 or occasionally 120 on the highway.Mostly I just marvel at this thing that apparently relatively low-schooled mechanics can fix part by part, and yet somehow with a a few lite
