I've been reading a lot of self help and psychology books lately, and I think that the problem is simply that I don't care about, or believe in, the company I work at. We exist to make money really. I mean we do provide a service, but so much of it is locked behind over priced paywalls, and my job consists of running experiments on users to essentially milk as much money from them as possible. It's like my mind wants to revolt because I don't think we're doing good for the world (at best neutral), and yet my main work in life is to help them.So I think, what could I build on my own that impassions me? Well, anger is a great motivator. Find a problem that makes you angry, and that can inspire an entire company vision. I don’t drive but like to walk to the supermarket and restaurants. My wife doesn’t like living in a big city, so we’re in the burbs within walking distance of a little “downtown” area.It’s a bit of an unhappy medium because the homes we want still cost $1M, yet it’s a long and limited walk. Plus we’re ready for something new. We’d likely both be happier in a town, living just off some Main Street with 20 or so shops. The city is great but honestly I don’t need more than a good diner, a supermarket, and a friendly bar. Nice to haves are a pleasant climate (not too cold), an airport within an hour or so, and decent public schools.I’m asking here because I hear so much about NYC/SF tech workers being set loose by remote work and leaving. Has there been any work done on creating aerial street lanes above the ground (but lower than small aircraft altitudes)? I was imagining something like an invisible layered grid that a person can see on their flying vehicle's computer screen, Google Glasses, or on their helmet's shield with AR. This could solve traffic gridlock if personal flying vehicles could use up layers of airspace above street level but below small aircraft levels (1000 ft). You just ascend to a higher altitude and fly along the aerial street route to buy groceries or send a package at the post office. We would be able to travel in not just 2D (x- and y-planes) but in 3D as well (z-plane). Maybe a high-rise building can have landing docks and stores at certain altitudes? In other words"out of sight, out of mind".Humans mostly agree on what constituts suffering and pain while there are many definitions of happiness.I am thinking that in very simplified terms, emotions are "weights" to data in our neurophysiology. Similarly as nods in neural network have weights to them.I feel a stronger connection to people I personally know and whom I can experience with my physical senses. Originally I always wanted to become a head chef, but with more and more economic pressure and less talented or willing personnel everywhere, I’m not envious of anybody in that position anymore.Also I thought I would drink less if I didn’t have to cook anymore, but it turned out that was a lie and I realized I was a bona fide alcoholic. I got treatment and I’m almost 2 years sober now and thankful for it. However, it also made me realize that without alcohol I’m a very shy and introverted person.
