Ask HN: Why such a negative perception of Affiliate Links?I run a blog that (I hope) brings value to its readers. I do run some google ads which I know some people block.Obviously, the blog takes some of my time and costs to run. I'd guess in the big picture, no one that gets value from my blog blames me for trying to monetize.At times, I do link to products. I cannot think of a less obtrusive and more seamless method to monetize than to affiliatize those links. It isn't an intrusive ad. It costs my users absolutely nothing.But I still occasionally get emails (and just have a general perception) that the world HATES affiliatization.Pinterest tried it awhile back - and just read the comments of this article. Ask HN: Travel TipsI am a simple data analyst who has nothing to do nowadays and i just want to build something. Ask HN: Can't undertaking & burials be streamlined?Being a geek I have always looked at cool fb-ish startup idea. But this hit me yesterday.Muslims, Jews & Christians do bury their dead if they are not cremated. There seem to be two problems with the current model:1. Graveyards are situated on fertile land which can be rather used for organic farming and housing. The graveyards need to be outside the cities on land where humans cannot build houses or do farming. Food for thought for urban planners.2. The burial services are very outdated. It's not the end of the world if you got denied!I've seen a few posts on here about all the different alternative YC groups found by people who were denied an interview. First of all, don't stop. It's not the end of the world if pg denied you an interview, so continue on making your idea.His post said specifically said that your idea isn't "bad" just not "exceptional". You now have six months to build a better application. You can work on making the demo better, and spend some extra time to figure out some of the more important questions. (ie. How exactly are you going to monetize?)I've seen a lot of discussion about alternative YCs. They all sound like a good idea, but what's so hard about bootstrapping? Just spend a few extra hours after work on your project. Get things going nice and smoothly. Who knows, you might not even need YC at all!I applied for the previous Winter `08, and I didn't even get an interview. My partner and I decided to go ahead without YC.
