Show HN: Kyran – App Builder for Google Sheets (Apps Script Without the Pain)https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/kyran_ai_app_builder_for_sheets/926707268415Hey HN,I built something I've been wanting for years: a way to access the power of Google Apps Script inside Sheets on demand, without having to switch to the code editor and remembering Apps Script APIs.## Why bother?Apps Script is actually underrated: it lets you do arbitrary structured logic (when formulas get unreadable/convoluted), procedural transformations, and even add custom UIs (menus, dialogs, sidebars). It goes further than macros, with triggers, etc.But the pain is real: remembering the APIs, figuring out deployment, debugging code in an unfamiliar environment, etc. For non-technical folks, it’s simply inaccessible.## What Kyran doesIt lives as a Sheets add-on (sidebar). You describe what you want, it generates Apps Script code, installs it into your Sheet, and you can run it right away. You can iterate in the "spreadsheet-native" way: not by reading the code, but by trying it on some data and checking the result. If it's wrong, you tweak the description. The code it generat

AI for analytical DIY mental healthhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45085021Recently started asking Google Gemini a lot of questions about shadow work, EMDR, self help and personal growth. I don't view it as a friend, but a guide and assistant to get tldr type information for my own self help journey.Things like "walk me through a shadow work, start to finish" and "what does that process look like for xyz?"I'm a self learner, as I imagine many of us here are. We enjoy digging into topics on our own and figuring them out. I know everything has "disclaimers" because everyone these days is afraid of litigation literally taking away their livelihood, and they "highly suggest a professional" and "doing it yourself is dangerous" along with the "self harm" risks of psychosis and whatever else,... But is there really potential here? I feel I'm facing demons head on that I never would have considered otherwise. What are your thoughts?

Ask HN: Is building a Google Maps alternative from scratch bad idea?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45077586want to build a Google Maps alternative from scratch. I’ll start with one city, focusing on the downtown area, and then expand from there. I know there are open-source versions available, but I want to build this map for a specific use case.On a scale of 1 (a stupid idea) to 10 (a great idea), where would this fall?

Show HN: Startup Ideas Vault – 1500 app/site ideas from Google Autocompletionshttps://www.qequals.com/startup-ideas-vault/I built a tool that systematically pulls Google autocomplete suggestions for "an app to/for/that" across the entire alphabet and surfaces 500+ real app ideas that people are actually searching for.Unlike brainstormed lists or AI-generated ideas, these come directly from Google's autocomplete data – meaning real people typed these phrases when looking for solutions. Stuff like "an app to find parking spots," "an app for tracking plant watering," "an app that translates dog barks" (yes, really).Built this in about 7 hours using the existing Google Autocomplete A-Z API I built. The data updates daily and I flag anything that appeared in the last 7 days as "new" to catch trending ideas. What I'm still working on: Right now it's just a clean list of keywords, which feels a bit dry. I'm still looking for ways to surface the most interesting/viable ideas and trying to add context. If anyone has creative ideas for presenting this kind of data, I'm all ears. Also curious: What other categories wo

Show HN: An Open-Source Eval Suite That Helps You Fix Postgres-Based Text-to-SQLhttps://www.tigerdata.com/blog/text-to-sql-eval-open-sourceWe've been building text-to-SQL at TigerData and kept hitting the same problem: evaluation tools that tell you your accuracy score but nothing about how to improve it.Getting a 60% pass rate is meaningless if you don't know whether failures are from bad schema retrieval or poor SQL generation. It's the difference between actionable insights and meaningless benchmarketing. So we built, and are now open-sourcing, text-to-sql-eval with a simple insight: run every query three different ways:- Normal mode - let the system retrieve schema and generate SQL - Full schema mode - provide all tables to test upper bound accuracy - Golden tables mode - give it the right tables to isolate reasoning issuesThe performance delta between modes tells you exactly what's broken.PostgreSQL-specific because database quirks matter for correctness. Works with any LLM or text-to-SQL system. Includes an LLM-as-judge option because deterministic matching produces too many false negatives on complex queries. We've b

Show HN: Spring AI Playground – Self-Hosted Web UI for MCP, RAG and LLMhttps://github.com/JM-Lab/spring-ai-playgroundI’m the creator of Spring AI Playground, a self-hosted web UI built on Spring AI—designed to make testing and experimenting with AI tools more straightforward for Java developers. What it is Runs locally, lets you experiment with: • LLM providers (Ollama is the default, but you can switch to OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, and more.). • RAG workflows: upload documents, chunk, embed, search with scoring, and filter metadata. • A visual MCP (Model Context Protocol, a spec for connecting models to external tools) Playground to set up tool integrations (HTTP, STDIO, SSE), inspect tool metadata, and call them from a chat interface.I wanted a place to play with RAG workflows and external tool calls without wiring up a full app or handling API boilerplate.GitHub: https://github.com/JM-Lab/spring-ai-playgroundWhy it’s different • Built with Spring AI—no new language or framework if you’re already in the Spring ecosystem. • Zero API key setup (thanks to Ollama support), though you can swit
