A user created gaming news platform where you can post news, reviews, guides and other content related to games and make money off of it. So in short, something akin to a news version of Medium for the gaming market.To try out the concept, I have reworked an existing gaming site I had running into a prototype of the idea. You can post content, see roughly how popular it is, choose how its monetised and earn a share of the ad revenue. There’s also integration with a forum section and other related features, but that’s something that’s more a part of the WordPress modification I’m using.There’s also the option for paid subscriptions, which is going to be tied into content monetisation. We poured all our knowledge and experience into a taxi app called vToms (targeted at authorised taxi and private hire only, not the general public with flimsy or no insurance). We are offering it right now to drivers for free while we are on out last stages of beta testing and hopefully build a user base while we added features. Once beta is over, we will charge a small fixed fee for the drivers using vToms, never a percentage of their earnings, vToms passenger app will always be free to use, the passenger pays the driver directly at the end of the hire. I have been promoting through facebook, twitter and linkedIn, among others social networks without much success. We have the android version running now for a year and the iOS version has just been submitted for preview. We loved XMPP for it's extensibility and the protocol completely mimics XMPP - chat, chatstates, client-state indiciation.Just the namespaces are replaced by MQTT topics and with wildcards clients are really lightweight.Advantages: 1. Streaming Binary instead XML (XMPP have exi so it can be fixed). 2. Super easy to implement. Just took us a day to implement to port most of the functionality from XMPP. 3. Just like XMPP it's infinitely extendible. Wanted to add a new packet type is just adding a provider and registering it to manager (to all those who worked with Smack - will feel at home). 4. I was able to work about $2k, a comfortable position while I decide what my next move is.Said invoice remains unpaid. I'm now a debt collector. There are options to consolidate, but the amount is in excess of $25k which makes things difficult. I do have contracts in place, and counsel I can lean on, but it’s an incredibly exhausting and lengthy process. As a 24-year-old dev-shop founder I have learned my lesson. I'll require pre-paid invoices from here on. There’s more to the story, but in short, I've wound things down after my co-founder (design/sales) unexpectedly left us in early Q2 2015.The response was overwhelming. Ask HN: Monitor for programming – modern LEDs are poor for texthttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10134667When looking for a new monitor I found out that old LED screens were far better in displaying text, especially white/gray on black (a Linux terminal).Particularly a modern Dell LED IPS screen is worse than Benq TN LCD model from 2009, and far worse than Eizo 2004 LCD MVA model (it was a budget model).I checked other cheap modern LED monitors and they all seem to have the same problem with displaying text - it looks like "shining neons" whereas on old LEDs text is more "flat" and looks closer to real paper. Games and videos look brighter and shinier but text is inferior.I'm using Ubuntu (I find it's text antialiasing to be generally superb), and I mainly work inside xterms for many hours a day. I know that my issue sounds petty, but I actually feel discomfort when working on modern LED screens and I'm looking for a replacement.The questions is: has anybody felt the same issue and found a solution?
