The U.S. race to the moon: Why Plan B cannot waithttps://spacenews.com/the-u-s-race-to-the-moon-why-plan-b-cannot-wait/For years, both the Trump Administration and Congress have clearly stated that returning Americans to the moon before China in the 2028-2030 timeframe is a national priority. It is central to United States leadership in space, to global influence and to the future of human exploration. Yet across the space community, a sobering recognition has […] The post The U.S. race to the moon: Why Plan B cannot wait appeared first on SpaceNews.

Space shuttle design study maps path to breakthrough inventionshttps://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Space_shuttle_design_study_maps_path_to_breakthrough_inventions_999.htmlLos Angeles CA (SPX) Dec 05, 2025 Researchers examining NASA's space shuttle development argue that the agency's design approach offers a template for creating breakthrough products that combine many interdependent features, from launch systems to smartphones and pharmaceuticals. They focus on how NASA generated internal knowledge for the shuttle program between 1969 and 1971, when engineers had to balance performance, cost, and

Ask HN: Better places to work for burntout SWE?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46211822I've tried my share of startups and megacorps, FAANGs. I am in a stage where I cringe on hearing a mission is so important that it needs a 996 culture. I also hate work getting stolen in the name of collaboration and politics in general thats daily business in Megacorps. I just want to bang out code, mentor juniors and deliver value in a small team that doesn't have an unhealthy obsession with growth or overworking. Maybe with rich founders who don't want to get more rich.Where can I find good places to work, especially in the US that offer: 1. Remote first setting 2. Mission oriented like Privacy, non-profit background etc (or Open Source with proven history) 3. Holocracy/Flat structureI think the above 3 criteria will really narrow down places that prioritize mission over growth/profits and automatically not pay a lot yet have a higher technical bar that deters a lot of folks who would end up optimizing for things that lead to a mess. Am I looking for a Unicorn?

Show HN: Detail, a Bug Finderhttps://detail.dev/Hi HN, tl;dr we built a bug finder that's working really well, especially for app backends. Try it out and send us your thoughts!Long story below.--------------------------We originally set out to work on technical debt. We had all seen codebases with a lot of debt, so we had personal grudges about the problem, and AI seemed to be making it a lot worse.Tech debt also seemed like a great problem for AI because: 1) a small portion of the work is thinky and strategic, and then the bulk of the execution is pretty mechanical, and 2) when you're solving technical debt, you're usually trying to preserve existing behavior, just change the implementation. That means you can treat it as a closed-loop problem if you figure out good ways to detect unintended behavior changes due to a code change. And we know how to do that – that's what tests are for!So we started with writing tests. Tests create the guardrails that make future code changes safer. Our thinking was: if we can test well enough, we c

Quantum fuzzy spacetime may reshape gravity theoryhttps://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Quantum_fuzzy_spacetime_may_reshape_gravity_theory_999.htmlBerlin, Germany (SPX) Dec 08, 2025 A team at TU Wien has developed a new way to connect quantum theory with general relativity by quantizing the spacetime metric and analyzing how this affects the paths that particles follow under gravity. Their work focuses on geodesics, the curves that represent the shortest connection between two points in curved spacetime and that underlie most applications of Einstein's theory, such as the o

The researchers argue that these prebiotic gels, attached to mineral or other surfaces, could have provided both structure and chemical environments that helped early chemistry progress toward biology. Ask HN: Who Is Working to Combat AI-Powered Fraud?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46137711There has been a recent explosion in AI-aided scams and fraud. Deepfakes (both video and voice), web scraping, and automated document generation have allowed scammers to target victims with more precision and believability than was ever possible before AI.All of this has always been possible to some degree, but "quantity has a quality all its own" continues to ring true.Public education ("scam awareness") is obviously the most decisive strategy, but is generally left to the underfunded public sector or the PR departments of banks, etc.As for AI-industry regulation, I'm not holding my breath. And besides, with open-source models there will always be products available to bad actors. So is anyone working on anything in the public interest? Any bright ideas?
