Launch HN: Rise Reforming (YC S26) – Turning Waste Gases into Valuable Chemicalshttps://www.rise-reforming.comHi HN! This is George, Lucas, and Jona from Rise Reforming (https://www.rise-reforming.com/). We’re developing a process to convert gas produced at landfills, farms, and wastewater plants (“biogas”) into higher value chemicals. Our technology is modular, designed to be deployed and operated on-site. Think of us as a chemical project developer; we sit between biogas producers (suppliers) and chemical end users (customers). We pay biogas producers for their gas and we make money from selling our chemicals. We're starting with dimethyl ether (DME) as our beachhead chemical because of its high-margin use case in the cosmetics industry and ultimately targeting methanol – a versatile and widely used industrial chemical.Being in a two sided market allows us to target two large problems.(1) On the chemical side: The multi-trillion dollar U.S. chemical and fuel industries are vulnerable to geopolitical conflicts and climate-driven natural disasters. The Iran war has caused global methanol priceJul 27, 2026 7:58 PM

Show HN: Wianu – A native macOS home for all my streaming serviceshttps://github.com/timwehrle/WianuHey guys,so the original reason I thought of this idea was because I got tired of opening Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, etc., separately just to continue watching something. Then I made a post here about streaming services where some of you did agree with me: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49007671Wianu is a native macOS app that brings your streaming services into one place. You can save your services, maintain a unified Continue Watching list, and import your Letterboxd watchlist (or manage one directly in the app). It's primarily a personal project because I do almost all of my movie and TV watching on my Mac, but I thought others might find it useful as well.Feedback, criticism, and feature suggestions are all welcomeJul 27, 2026 7:45 PM

Show HN: ProofLeague – friends can ask for proof when you start a workouthttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49072945Hi HN!My friends and I used to do a rough version of this over text. We’d tell the group when we were starting a workout, and someone could ask for a selfie to keep us honest. It was simple, slightly ridiculous, and surprisingly effective. It was also clumsy to manage in a group chat, so I built ProofLeague:https://proofleague.comThe rule is basically the same: create a private league and choose a weekly goal. When someone starts a workout, everyone else has 30 minutes to ask for a selfie. If nobody asks, the workout counts. If someone does, the person takes a fresh selfie in the app before the response deadline.I’ve found that seeing friends work out is motivating, and seeing their exhausted post-workout selfies is often pretty entertaining. What started with a few friends has grown into six different leagues for me. I can start one workout across several leagues, and each one gets its own chance to ask for proof. If multiple leagues ask, I can share the same selfie with the leagues thaJul 27, 2026 5:32 PM

Show HN: I built the simple expense tracker I wanted to usehttps://getspenso.com/Hi HN! I built Spenso because I wanted a simple record of my spending, but never kept up with budgeting apps.I wanted to type or dictate something like "Starbucks 25" or "Uber Eats 25, Lidl 54.30 yesterday" and call it a day. Spenso understands the message, logs each expense, and automatically categorizes it.It’s built for iPhone, works offline-first, and uses AI only when an entry can’t be categorized on-device.I’d love honest feedback from anyone who has tried and abandoned expense trackers before.Jul 27, 2026 5:30 PM

Show HN: Darkslide – A keyboard-centric photo editorhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49072181Hi HN,I'm building Darkslide (https://darkslide.app) - the keyboard-centric photo editor. It is an early, rough, and completely free macOS app looking for feedback from anyone who shoots photos and hates Adobe. The project was born out of two main ideas:1. Exploring a keyboard-centric UX: I enjoy vim motions and wanted to see if a purely keyboard-focused approach to photo editing is actually valuable. I can basically sum it up as "vim for photos"—the most stereotypically over-engineered developer solution to a creative problem, so feel free to roast me for it.2. Killing the catalog: I hate how Lightroom or Capture One forces you to manage a .library file, or how others rely on sidecar files. Darkslide manages adjustments automatically behind the scenes. You can just move or duplicate your original photo file in your OS, and the app handles the edits correctly without corrupting a catalog. How it works (90-second demo): Edit one photo, "yank" the edits, select 200, paste, and export. httpJul 27, 2026 4:41 PM

Show HN: Ray-color, color palettes sampled off a raytraced tennis ballhttps://meodai.github.io/ray-color/Years ago I had a Philips Hue setup and a tennis ball lying on the table. Every time the room lights changed, the ball turned into a completely new palette: a red key light here, a cold fill there, a bit of warm bounce off the tabletop. Same ball, new colors, and they always fit together, because they were all made of the same light in the same room. That observation became a scrappy raytracer prototype that sat on my disk for years. It worked, barely, and every change broke two other things, so I mostly left it alone. What finally got it over the line was working on it with AI. Not "the AI wrote it": the idea, the model of the room, and the color decisions are mine. But pair-programming with an agent turned the parts I'd been dreading (porting to TypeScript, a WebGL2 preview that falls back to the exact CPU render, a proper web component, nailing down the determinism guarantees) into afternoons instead of months. For the first time the project was actually fun to tinker with, so I did, Jul 27, 2026 3:31 PM

Show HN: Otlet – Local LLM inference "inside" Postgreshttps://github.com/joshmeek/otletI’ve been working on Otlet, a Postgres extension for running local LLM inference “inside” Postgres (inference runs in a background worker, while Postgres stores the jobs, inputs, outputs, and receipts)I started it while working on an entity resolution problem (determining which rows in a table refer to the same entity). The data was already in Postgres, but using a model meant pulling rows into another process and then writing the results back. I wanted to see whether I could keep more of that workflow in the database right next to where the data livesRight now Otlet lets you start model work from SQL, require structured output, keep a record of each run, review proposed writes before they touch source data, etc. The example in the repo uses a small model for the first pass and a stronger model for uncertain casesThis is just something I've been hacking on, not something I would recommend attempting to use in production yet. There’s a Docker demo if anyone wants to try it. I’m mostly pJul 27, 2026 2:56 PM

Show HN: Tilde Pay – Give your AI agent a bank account to pay for thingshttps://my.tildepay.ai/hey HN, I'm Daniel - I built Tilde Pay during a hackathon I took part in and couldn't stop working on it. It's an MCP server you can give your AI agent to buy things online with. It can process both x402, MPP payments & (hopefully soon), any card checkout form online. When you sign up, you get EUR and USD denominated bank account details to send deposits to which convert to USDC within a minute of receipt for your agent to spend in their own crypto wallet. You can then add the MCP server to Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT or Claude really easily. For example, you can use it to pay for services listed on https://agentic.market/ . My goal is to support traditional card checkout forms so agents could pay on any online retailer.I built this in a hackathon a few weeks ago and haven't put it down since. Please give it a try and let me know what you think. One of the biggest concerns around AI-driven payments was security and I thought the safest option would be to spin up "sandbox" bank accounts thaJul 27, 2026 2:13 PM

Show HN: Arcade.js – Decompiling MAME ROMs into Idiomatic JavaScript with LLMshttps://github.com/qarl/arcade-jsarcade-js is an experiment in using an agentic harness to decompile ROM machine code.A MAME ROM is a good candidate for porting — you can run it perfectly and capture its state. It is also a challenge — blind machine code running on odd hardware. To get from machine code to readable JavaScript, we go through several stages:1) Disassembly — pull the raw bytes apart into instructions and data.2) Translation — rewrite it one instruction at a time into JavaScript that's provably identical to the original. We call this "assembly-JavaScript": it's JavaScript, but its shape is the assembly's.3) State testing — run the assembly-JavaScript next to MAME and check that every register, every byte of memory, and the cycle count all track it. Not bit-perfect (real hardware has a CPU-vs-video-beam race we don't chase, etc.) but close enough to catch errors.4) Decompilation — rewrite that assembly-JavaScript into real, idiomatic JavaScript.5) Pixel testing — the idiomatic code no longer tracks registerJul 27, 2026 1:23 PM

Show HN: Karpathy's LLM Wiki as a "Brain KIT" to build compounding knowledgehttps://github.com/0xchamin/brain-kitI like learning and I spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos, going through blog posts (Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepMind etc.), reading papers. One of the big challenge is to accumulate a compounding knowledge based on what I read while mapping what I read with foundational knowledge/ first principals. In order to solve this, I leveraged Karpathy's LLM Wiki and build a brain kit. "Brain Kit" is very minimal. Very easy to use. You just need to paste the link of your resource and it will does the job according to your prefferred teaching style. Review it and let me know what you think.
