Show HN: Machinations – a multiplayer strategy game where LLM is the game masterI started by thinking about the game mechanics I actually wanted to see. I come from a long background in diceless tabletop RPGs, and what I loved about them was the GM improvising, making rulings on the spot. When LLMs came along, I saw a chance to build a mechanic that worked like that.But LLMs on their own are bad at it. They regress toward the mean and they try too hard to please the player. Nobody ever really fails. So I built a system (I won't name it, I'm not here to self-promote) around a 3d10 bell curve of outcomes. The dice decide how well an attempt goes, across a whole spread of grades from disastrous to legendary, and the LLM has to narrate whatever the dice say. That forces it to produce results the player won't like, which is where the drama comes from.With that in hand, I could resolve any conflict narratively. In a couple of hours I had the core options bound and over the weekend I got to full LED status control.The code is Windows stuff and probably not the hardware you have on hand, but that almost doesn't matter anymore, right? Show HN: I left Figma to build a diffusion-based UI design toolHey hn, this has been something I've been working on for the last few months and is finally robust enough to really show off.I've been pretty tired with the design outputs of LLMs for a while, and I've always thought diffusion offered much more creative / on brand design outputs, even before they were able to render text.I had enough conviction for this to leave my role over at Figma to build Diffui. The goal is to allow for you to design your full web app as quickly as possible, in a figma-like interface, and then hand that off to an agent to build. The page shows some interactive examples. A few times where a winner starts off as an island and then gets connected later on. Most recently St. Louis almost got marooned in 2019. Same thing happened before in '89, '80', '74, etc.You can six degrees of Kevin Bacon anybody; just search a name and click 6-degree icon next to it to choose another. Nothing is uploaded, there's no account, and the tools are free.The redaction is the part I actually care about.Most tools that "redact" a PDF draw a black rectangle over the text. The text is still in the file. Copy-paste it, or open the file in a byte inspector, and it's right there. This has repeatedly burned courts, police forces and newspapers, and it keeps happening because the output looks correct.Redenta renders each page to a canvas, paints the redaction boxes into the pixels, and rebuilds the PDF as image-only. There is no text layer left to recover.
