It's a platform for hard optimization problems where a solution can be checked deterministically.For a bit of background, I've always found these types of problems interesting. The really difficult optimization problems where techniques like gradient decent don't work, or where even finding a feasible solution is difficult (e.g. square packing). I've worked on these independently for fun and have created this project as a way to share the problems I find interesting with the community. I am curious to see how far others can push these.Each challenge is defined by its verifier, a program that will enforce the constraints, and evaluate the objective function. The verifiers are open-source per challenge, so users can check their solutions against it before submitting. I can automate and extend it through js, with access to QObjects, signals, slots, properties, etc.Unfortunately, QtScript disappeared with Qt6, so (after a long research) my plan was to migrate to PythonQt. That meant rewriting existing scripts, deploying a Python runtime, and praying that all our scripts would still be feasible with PythonQt. I had no particular desire to do all that, so I had been postponing it. The thinkg about QtScript is that, contrary to Qt, online resources are very scarce, you barely find anything but old forum posts from the 2010sSince I'm on the $20 Codex plan and had 2 resets that was going to expire unused. Ask HN: Have you used LLMs to reinvigorate you niche programming community?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49259794I've seen a few discussions over the years about how niche languages like Lisp, Forth, Prolog, etc. would be great to use, but even for personal projects the lack of available packages makes them hard to use. However, with an LLM you can have it replicate whatever package you'd like from a more popular language. You can even port software to your favorite niche architecture. If you really want to run your homelab off a PA-RISC machine you just give an agent SSH access and tell it to make the software work.For myself, I have only done very little of this. I did add POWER vectorization to POV-Ray so that I can get a little more speed out of a machine that has more power than it needs for other things. Instead of letting it use something like Python or Go for small scripts I'll tell the LLM that the more logical choice is Prolog. Show HN: Tokyo Trainshttps://greggman.github.io/tokyo-trains/Semi inspired by the 3d Shinjuku station that was posted again recently, I noticed it was missing a large portion of the "complex" where "complex" is defined loosly has how far you can walk without stepping outside.So I asked Claude to make a 3d map of all Tokyo Trains, no libraries, and let you zoom into stations, and the first version with both map and the Shinjuku complex was ready in about 3 hours. It spent another 7 or so in various nit picky things I asked for to get to the current version.I know these will only get better but I think the thing I find most interesting is no libraries needed. Claude can write the shaders from scratch, it can do both WebGPU and WebGL, and it can often write optimal solutions. For example, the entire map/station/trains is rendered in 5 draw calls. I didn't ask for that, it just did it.This one has lots of imprefections. Most of that comes down to data and/or deciding how to use the data provided.
