We need to rethink tech stackhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49061251Let me start this with something we already know, AI is here, it may be controversial how it will operate open or closed but its not going anywhere. If you look at the current tech space, AI integrations and use and some very useful but some unnecessary AI implementations, you will realise that there are either many gaps in current understanding.Lets start on what i wanted to talk, first lets talk about AI, what is AI, not the defination, but actually is AI, it may not be the ultimate intelligence but have some intelligence or atleast we can say, it know certain well known patterns, its ability comes in various sizes, but essentially now we a black box with some knobs, which be a better solution than hard coded flows, logics and if its imagined well, it can be really really useful but there is a flaw.We being extremists, we either think of its going to taking all the jobs or its just useless, there is another way to approach it.Think of it as intelligence layer available to you, but curJul 26, 2026 7:01 PM

Ask HN: Multi dimensional sort (beyond Hilbert curve)https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49042861My point is about structuring and indexing an arbitrary dataset, for preprocessing before eg segmentation/clustering, neighbor querys...In 1D, sorting is trivial because scalar values have a total, unambiguous order. In 2D and higher dimensions, there is no single way to order points, and points can't all be compared >=/=_k v if u_k >= v_k (comparing along the k-th coordinate axis only). In 1D, a sorted array satisfies x[i+1] >= x[i]. Extending this naturally to a multi-indexed d-dimensional array x[i, j, k, ...], we can define a dataset as "cartesian sorted" if:- x[i+1, j, k, ...] >=_1 x[i, j, k, ...] - x[i, j+1, k, ...] >=_2 x[i, j, k, ...] - ...and so on.In other words, the array of multi indexes is sorted along every row, column, and slice under its corresponding coordinate projection. What makes this definition interesting is that their exist a very simple algorithm to perform Nd sort in the "cartesian" sense. Just iterate: 1. Perform 1D sorts along every row (apply the permutation Jul 24, 2026 11:27 PM

Show HN: PMG, open source package firewallhttps://github.com/safedep/pmgHi HNI am the founder of SafeDep. We have been detecting malicious packages for a while. Coming from DevSecOps background, I always considered malicious package detection & protection to be a build stage problem. But I was wrong since the S1ngularity and early Shai-Hulud days.In 2026, we pretty much started worrying more about our own dev machines than CI/CD environment. Depending only on threat intelligence data (OSV / SafeDep / Socket / any other source) to protect our own dev machines did not feel right. We wanted to build a multi-layered protection that can get 100% visibility of OSS packages coming in, and can protect against known and “hopefully” unknown threats. That’s how Package Manager Guard (PMG) started. Core idea was simple:- Start a local proxy (localhost)- Make sure supported package managers like npm, pnpm, pip etc. goes through it- Use threat intelligence data to fail fast on known malicious packages- Apply policies like dependency cooldown as additional guardrails- AdJul 21, 2026 4:58 PM

Precision Astrometry Using Optically Independent Spacecraft for Graviational Wave Detectionhttps://www.nasa.gov/directorates/stmd/niac/niac-studies/precision-astrometry-using-optically-independent-spacecraft-for-graviational-wave-detection/Paul StankusBrookhaven Science Associates The scientific goal is to enable a new method for observing gravitational waves at low frequencies, based on the astrometric GW signature — gravitational waves passing by the Earth will cause a (very small) coordinated apparent motion of all sky objects. Our innovation is to deploy a new approach to precision […]Jul 21, 2026 3:23 PM

The innovation is in two stages. First, the design of a new kind of nulling interferometer — “dynamic hierarchical nulling” — combining inputs […]Jul 21, 2026 3:23 PM

Establishing Crew Exposure Limits of Martian Dusthttps://www.nasa.gov/general/establishing-crew-exposure-limits-of-martian-dust/Background Human exploration of Mars will expose crews to a persistent, fine particulate environment whose physicochemical properties and health implications remain only partly understood. Because no samples of authentic Martian airborne dust have been returned to Earth, NASA must rely on lunar dust toxicology, Martian regolith simulants, and extensive rover/lander geochemical and mineralogical datasets to […]Jul 21, 2026 2:03 PM

Show HN: A chess game you play with Claude as your wing-bot in the CLIhttps://github.com/goawaygeek/ground-controlHey HN!Wanted to show off a thing I built in case it interests anyone.I wanted to build a game you play inside the claude code CLI and back when they launched the channels feature I started investigating ways to use that to do so. I started with a multiplayer comedy battle game where you would collaborate with Claude to write jokes based on a theme in a timeframe and then post them to an audience and compete against other folks (with the audience voting for the funniest joke), it was OK but I didn't have anyone to really test it with so I moved on. My son has been learning chess so instead I tweaked it to let you play chess with Claude suggesting three possible move options for you to choose from and submit as your move (you choose what you actually want to do not Claude). It was much more fun and allowed me to actually learn a thing or two about chess (my chess isn't great, it didn't need to do much to help me learn but I could go back and forth with it on why a certain move was betteJul 20, 2026 11:40 PM
