Tell HN: An ode to the lost magic of the 2010s ZIRP startupshttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43366055("ZIRP" means "Zero Interest Rate Policy btw)It really is incredible how suddenly the world changes. Many of us are now unemployed, facing layoffs, taking salary cuts and enduring grueling work environments to try and get through the worst tech recession since 2008.I myself now work in a fusty, old and stable government department in Europe. But I once worked for a couple of 2010s ZIRP startups. And what places they were.People from across Europe and the world would rock up to these places and bring their seductive cocktail of cultural insight, experiences and languages. And they were motivated primarily to create something new and cool. The types who would have hated the fusty corporate offices that many of us now flee to in search of job security. And the energy was explosive. Sure most of their companies didn't make much profit or, in many cases, even revenue - but the magic was palpable. Not least because the company socials brought together so many people from different cultures andMar 14, 2025 7:04 PM

Risk of In-Mission Injury and Performance Decrements and Long-term Health Effects due to Dynamic Loads (Dynamic Loads Risk)https://www.nasa.gov/directorates/esdmd/hhp/dynamic-loads-risk/Standards and vehicle design requirements are based on automotive and military environments and operational protocols; they are also partially tailored to the spaceflight environment. However, these do not adequately mitigate the risk of injury due to the unique spaceflight environment. Show HN: UDP and Serverlesshttps://proxylity.com/landing/love.htmlHi HN!I'm Lee, the founder and developer of Proxylity.I became interested in UDP as a part of exploring game development, experimenting with IoT/embedded, and running global RADIUS authentication systems. I even wrote a specialized load balancer for it[1].One of my takeaways is how little innovation has happened in UDP-based backend software. It's been the same pattern for decades: old code for stateful processes running on clusters, VMs or containers. Familiar, but expensive (time and/or money) and restrictive.Meanwhile, while the HTTP world has benefited from eliminating most barriers to experimentation: setting up a new HTTP API or site has little to no initial cost, and usage-based cost once running. As a result we have "the web" as we know it today -- full of experimentation and creativity. I'd like to see the same happen for network services in general, and ride the wave created by giants[2][3].UDP is stateless and serverless is stateless, which seems like a match that works.
