Hallucinote helps with the entire lifecycle of songwriting, including ideation, instrumentation, harmony, rhythm (including microtiming), arrangement, mixing, and production.Hallucinote is focused on assisting songwriting, not doing it for you. Key features:- Git-first representation of songs, using Ableton as an audio rendering and performance capture surface- A decision log for each song, covering all aspects of songwriting and music production- Composition skills adhere to the song’s decision log and write with micro-timing and other niceties- Support for meter changes, polymeter, and alternate tunings- Skills to critique melody, harmony, and rhythm against your stated goals (NOT “is this a good melody in the abstract”)- Round trip: perform MIDI tracks in Live, pull down into Hallucinote for embellishment, push back to Live (no audio track round trips yet)- Captures every track anAug 12, 2026 12:07 PM

Ask HN: What are GitHub's push-farm botnets for?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49270205Every hour GH Archive records ~160K public GitHub events, and right now ~64% of the pushes are spam. Thousands of auto-created accounts (word+digits usernames like smithhoward5868, gibberish repo names) push hundreds of times an hour to fresh repos, 24/7. One repo, LiamBruhin/SillyStuff, pushed 690 times in a single hour from ONE actor, and has kept that up for 13+ hours straight.I built a live radar that had to detect these farms to rank honestly, and I've been tracking them for 34 hours. Live: https://github-pulse.surge.sh — full writeup with charts and the farm ledger: https://github-pulse.surge.sh/report.html — open-source single script: https://github.com/Atheistam/github-pulseBut I genuinely don't know what they're FOR. No stars, no forks, no issues, no PRs, no meaningful README — just endless pushes to fresh gibberish repos. SEO? GitHub Actions reselling? Training-data poisoning? Has anyone seen this pattern before, or does anyone know what the endgame is?Aug 12, 2026 10:27 AM

Show HN: Huntclaw – a fast (maybe fastest) simple find-and-replace utilityhttps://github.com/tigerlang/huntclawHello everyone,I’d like to introduce huntclaw—a find-and-replace utility written in Zig that turned out to be faster than sd (written in Rust) and the standard GNU utilities. (benchmark as .png and .py script available on github repo, you can verify the accuracy of the benchmark: I've uploaded the test to the repository, including the better tests.)There’s a fairly simple explanation for this high speed: the lack of a regex engine and a focus on speed itself, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Note that searching is also very fast, thanks to SIMD two-byte prefiltering, which is also implemented in huntclaw. The benchmark also shows that ripgrep is faster at sparse searches, which makes sense, since it’s an excellent utility with SIMD pre-filtering and optimizations far superior to huntclaw—though the gap isn’t that big. I look forward to your feedback or comments. Thanks for reading!Aug 12, 2026 10:22 AM

Show HN: Woxi - Open-source Mathematica / Wolfram Language reimplementationhttps://woxi.ad-si.comWoxi is an interpreter for the Wolfram Language written in Rust.It comes with Woxi Studio, a Mathematica-like GUI built with iced, but you can also use Woxi through a CLI, Jupyter kernel, Python package, npm package, or WASM module.Compared with wolframscript / Mathematica, the main differences are:- Free and open source - Very fast startup - Typically milliseconds rather than seconds for the Wolfram kernel, making Woxi practical for shell scripts, one-liners, and other short-lived processes - Embeddable - It can run in a browser via WASM or be embedded into another application as a scripting languageA more detailed comparison with Mathematica is available here: https://woxi.ad-si.com/docs/comparison/mathematica/.Conformance is ensured with ~26'000 unit tests and ~900 .wls script snapshot tests. The current focus is on fixing remaining edge cases, improving performance, and growing the community. If you use the Wolfram Language, I'd be particularly interested in feedback on compatibilityAug 12, 2026 10:06 AM

Launch HN: Discovered Materials (YC P26) – AI agents to discover new materialshttps://discoveredmaterials.com/research/Hey HN, we're Advaith and Akash from Discovered Materials ( https://discoveredmaterials.com/ ). We build AI agents that discover new materials for the semiconductor industry.GPUs today have a heat problem. Nvidia & AMD are almost doubling the TDP (Thermal Design Power) in every chip they release - the H100 (released 2022) has a TDP of 700W, Blackwell (2024) gives out 1.2 kW and Rubin (2026) gives out at 2.3 kW of heat. This trend is expected to continue, and getting rid of this heat is one of the major reasons datacenters consume so much power and water today - they need it to keep chips cool during operation. The amount of heat produced by a chip and its ability to dissipate it are both influenced by the materials used to make it. For example, we could reduce the energy per bit required to move data between logic and memory by 10-50x by 3D packaging chips (placing HBM memory stacks directly on top of logic chips, instead of placing them beside logic on a 2D circuit board). However, we'Aug 12, 2026 7:51 AM
