Ask HN: Who Is Working to Combat AI-Powered Fraud?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46137711There has been a recent explosion in AI-aided scams and fraud. Deepfakes (both video and voice), web scraping, and automated document generation have allowed scammers to target victims with more precision and believability than was ever possible before AI.All of this has always been possible to some degree, but "quantity has a quality all its own" continues to ring true.Public education ("scam awareness") is obviously the most decisive strategy, but is generally left to the underfunded public sector or the PR departments of banks, etc.As for AI-industry regulation, I'm not holding my breath. And besides, with open-source models there will always be products available to bad actors. So is anyone working on anything in the public interest? Any bright ideas?

Ask HN: Is AI going to cure the common cold?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46137182I know that it's tongue in cheek to ask when AI is going to "cure cancer and solve climate change", but, is there a company / university / lab working on using AI (or mRNA, or CRIPSR, or whatever) to solve the more mundane and yet incredibly frustrating "small diseases" (like the common cold that we'll all get twice a year no matter how much vitamin C we consume ?)Where is the "breakthrough" research done on topics that no one talk about ?

Show HN: AI Hairstyle Changer – Try Different Hairstyles (1 free try, no login)https://aihairstylechanger.spaceI recently built a simple AI hairstyle try-on tool: https://aihairstylechanger.spaceRight now the flow is: - 1 free try with no login - +1 extra free try after logging in - After that, it's paid (to cover model costs)I’m unsure if this pricing model is fair or if the UX is confusing.Would love honest feedback on: - Is 1–2 free tries enough? - Is the paywall too early? - Are the AI results good enough to justify pay-per-use? - What would you expect as a user?Tech stack: - Next.js - Hair segmentation + masked generation - Lightweight image pipeline for blendingAny feedback is welcome — on the results, UX, speed, or pricing.

Magnetospheric substorms are bursts of activity in Earth's aurora that can rapidly transform faint arcs into bright, dynamic displays stretching across th

Researchers at The University of Texas at Austin have now organized these fluvial features into large drainage systems, producing the first global inventory of major Martian river basins and identifying 16 larg

Show HN: Systemdesigner.net – a free interactive system-design learning platformhttps://www.systemdesigner.net/Hi HN,I built systemdesigner.net, a free platform for learning and practicing system design, ML systems, and GenAI architectures.I originally built it for myself while preparing for system design and ML/AI interviews. I realized my workflow was a mess: reading a blog here, watching a video there, taking notes in Google Docs, and drawing diagrams in entirely different tools. When mentoring engineers I saw the same problem. I wanted a single platform where the material, the practice problems, and the diagramming were part of one continuous loop rather than scattered across the internet. Here’s what it does today:- Guided learning plans you can generate based on what you want to study (distributed systems, ML, LLMs, etc). - Every page has built-in quizzes so you can check understanding immediately. - In-page tools: highlight text, take notes, ask questions, get explanations, or have AI discussions on any concept. - Interactive whiteboards for designing architectures and practicing intervie
