The concept's appeared in fiction numerous times (the talking paintings in Harry Potter that mimic the person painted, the clones in The Prestige), and I think with LLMs, there might actually be a possibility of us doing something like this!I've just released a fork of the facebookresearch/llama-recipes which allows you to fine-tune a Llama model on your personal WhatsApp conversations. This adaptation can train the model (using QLoRA) to respond in a way that's eerily similar to your own texting style.What I've figured out so far:Quick Learning: The model quickly adapts to personal nuances, emoji usage, and phrases that you use. Co-founded 2 companies, failed, worked in california and singapore, now based in Europe. I think I'm an ok dev, quite good with people.I've mostly been working as a freelancer all my life, started billing 33€/day in 2012 for a few days at a time, now around 924€/day, 220 days/year.Always worked at fast paced / high stakes startups except for my current job. Worked 60 to 70 hours a week, ~50 weeks per year for many years until 2020.In 2021 I was completely burned out after 7.5 years of grinding.Took a cozy freelance job as a fullstack senior engineer in a ~100ppl company, coming into the office 2days/week.I'm working about 1 to 2 hours a day max, the expectations are so low compared to what I'm used to. Ask HN: Why do no Windows laptops have a trackpad as nice as the MBP?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36608840I have recently swapped my work MBP M1 Pro for a Dell Precision 5570 running Linux and all of my programming workflows are faster.When plugged into a dock and used as a desktop workstation, it's as good as any Linux desktop and superior to my MBP for programming.Though I really appreciated the performance, noise and battery life of the MBP and have been using a Mac professionally for 6 years - it ultimately no longer matches my requirements.Additionally, I couldn't use it for both work and play, forcing me to carry a second gaming laptop when I travelled. I guess support for Windows or Linux with full HW acceleration would solve this, but that's not due for several years if ever.That said, I regularly work from libraries and cafes so the feel of the laptop is important.The Dell, despite being a premium laptop has a trackpad that is exhausting to use.
