Valori – Deterministic Substrate for AI (Code and ArXiv Paper)https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46544369I've published a paper on a fundamental problem in AI systems that I believe has significant implications for our work: "Valori: A Deterministic Memory Substrate for AI Systems." [https://arxiv.org/pdf/2512.22280]THE PROBLEM :AI systems have unreliable memory. When you run the same AI agent twice with the same input, it can give you different answers not because the AI is "thinking differently," but because the underlying memory system is non-deterministic.In simple terms, the math used in building current vector databases (FAISS, Qdrant, Milvus, Pinecone, etc.) is floating-point arithmetic, which behaves differently across CPUs (x86, ARM, Mac, Windows). This is a universal problem acknowledged by industry leaders, including the FAISS team: https://github.com/facebookresearch/faiss/issues/4739THE SOLUTION (What I Built) :Valori: A deterministic memory substrate for AI systems. In simple terms, I replaced floating-point math with fixed-point arithmetic (Q16.16) and built the memory engineJan 8, 2026 6:11 PM

Show HN: Interactive Periodic Table with Experimentshttps://grundamnen.nuI built an interactive periodic table with accessible facts and visuals. My son has recently been studying a children's encyclopedia of chemical elements and found it very interesting. The encyclopedia is in Swedish but he also speaks English so I noticed he, understandably, cannot identify some elements by their English name when it's too unlike Swedish (such as sulfur being svavel in Swedish). At first I made a quick bilingual periodic table for him and then started expanding it with various visuals. My aim was to have a fact about each element and a simple experiment visualization, some elements have more. The table retains an English-Swedish toggle. All elements have an experiment animation such as a flame test, radioactivity or alkaline water explosion. The first two rows have real world pictures related to the elements, which take a bit to find and describe. I don't have any background in chemistry but have hopefully avoided basic mistakes.I tried to keep the text educational but Jan 8, 2026 3:52 PM

Show HN: Plagiarismremover.ai – plagiarism remover focused on formattinghttps://plagiarismremover.ai/A while back I kept running into the same frustrating workflow: plagiarism checkers would flag chunks of my text (especially drafts touched by AI), but fixing those flags manually often meant rewriting sections in ways that lost meaning or tone.So I built PlagiarismRemover.AI - a web-based tool that helps remove duplicated or flagged content while keeping the original meaning and structure. It’s not trying to replace writing or detection tools, but rather to help with that in-between step where you want something that reads well and is original. The tool is simple: paste text, run it, and get back a cleaned version. There’s a free plan for casual use and affordable paid tiers if you need higher limits, and no complex setup or mandatory waiting for emails. I’m sharing it here to get feedback from folks who care about writing quality and originality — especially people who write a lot or work with AI-assisted drafts.I’m also curious: for those of you who deal with plagiarism flags, how doJan 8, 2026 1:12 PM

Tiny patches of deforestation drive tropical carbon losshttps://www.esa.int/Applications/Observing_the_Earth/Space_for_our_climate/Tiny_patches_of_deforestation_drive_tropical_carbon_lossOften called Earth’s green lungs, tropical forests pull down massive amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, release oxygen and help regulate the global climate. While the threat of large-scale deforestation is well known, new findings reveal a surprising culprit – the clearance of small areas of forest accounts for more than half of net carbon losses across the Tropics.Jan 8, 2026 7:30 AM

The industry does not advance through clean inflection points that resolve uncertainty, and progress rarely aligns with the milestones investors are accustomed to tracking. More often, space infrastructure is absorbed gradually into other systems, registering as essential only after it is already embedded. Vy is a desktop app for Mac and Windows. It sees your screen and controls mouse and keyboard to automate workflows across apps, including ones without APIs. I know there is a lot of skepticism about AI agents, and I share some of it. A lot of things in this space look impressive in demos and then fall apart on real, boring work. So here are a few concrete things that Vy does today that we and early users actually rely on: Where it works best Tasks that you could explain in a paragraph and that take a human a few minutes, not hours.Workflows that mostly involve clicking, typing, scrolling, and copying between a few known tools.Where it does not work well Very long, unsupervised runs. It is better to keep tasks bounded and keep an eye on it.Pixel precise work like detailed design or brush based editing. Some custom web editors or highly dynamic UIs still confuse it.How it is differenJan 7, 2026 2:32 AM

Launch HN: Tamarind Bio (YC W24) – AI Inference Provider for Drug Discoveryhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46515777Hi HN, we're Deniz and Sherry from Tamarind Bio (https://www.tamarind.bio). Tamarind is an inference provider for AI drug discovery, serving models like AlphaFold. Biopharma companies use our library of leading open-source models to design new medicines computationally. Here’s a demo: https://youtu.be/luoMApPegloTwo years ago, I was hired at a Stanford lab to run models for my labmates. Some post-doc would ask me to run a set of 1-5 models in sequence with tens of thousands inputs and I would email them back the result after setting up the workflow in the university cluster. At some point, it became unreasonable that all of an organization's computational biology work would go through an undergrad, so we built Tamarind as a single place for all molecular AI tools, usable at massive scale with no technical background needed. Today, we are used by much of the top 20 pharma, dozens of biotechs and tens of thousands of scientists. When we started getting adoption in the big pharma companies, Jan 6, 2026 5:49 PM
