Getting feedback for Android app from within the apphttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3005133Getting a feedback on Android Market is tough, isn't it. I don't have any strong statistical proof to state it, but don't you find it difficult to review an app? How many times where you using an app, found it interesting but didn't bother to post a review, just because you had to close the app and open Android Market? I know I never gave a review because of this.I made an app, MyCycle (it has nothing to do with the female biological cycle, had I known that google will relate it to this I would have named it differently), which isn't very popular. But I didn't get any useful reviews. Here is a suggestion to Android Market, "Why not allow apps to submit feedback through some API??? Is it that difficult to make a Android Market API?". I don't see a reason why Google has not done it yet. Well, for the time being I just created a website of my own, http://www.droidfeedback.comIn case you also feel the same, here are some simple steps you need to get started:1. Ask HN: YC Startup Ideas We'd Like to Fund: Why is #22 blank?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2960031I just came across the GiftRocket inforgraphic on PG's "Startup Ideas We'd Like to Fund". Given it's been 3 years since publication and presuming GiftRocket's done their due diligence, why is there no serious disruption in #22?I'm shocked not only because I'm familiar with this very real problem from a user perspective, but mostly because it's a problem space I've actually worked on before and achieved some modicum of success/career advancement from it at one of the bulge bracket investment banks (which I won't name here for confidentiality reasons).I'm not here to boast, I just want to know what the HN community thinks about this problem and who would be seriously interested to work on this problem with me.I know there's been some HN discussion on this before. I've had a read through them and I've looked at some of the forays into this space (couldn't check out DabbleDB since they're shutting down). I don't think any of them hit the sweet spot as described.I read this list about 2 yeaSep 4, 2011 6:48 PM

Improving accessibility for Google Reader, inspired by readabilityhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2897188I spend way too long in google reader everyday. After about the 100th article my eyes start to hurt from all black text on a white background. So I decided to fix it with a chrome extension.Readerbility (inspired by readability) darkens the background, increases the font size, and uses a more readable font. It's just some small css changes, but if you have the same pains that I do, you can grab it from here and upload it to chrome from the extensions page.Best, Chrishttps://github.com/cmaury/readerbilityAug 17, 2011 10:16 PM

Ask HN: Learning movie CGIhttps://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2790972After watching movies such as Harry Potter and Avatar, I became interested in the CGI effects used in movies. I realize that these are done by huge teams, but I want to learn about how the effects are created and how to create simple ones myself. I'm a fairly experienced programmer, but I don't know much about graphics programming and absolutely nothing about 3D modeling. Can anyone suggest some resources to learn about this? I don't even know where to begin.Jul 21, 2011 7:44 PM

Online Computer Science BS Degree?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2599618Does anyone know of a good online undergraduate Computer Science program? My girlfriend is almost done her Masters of Science in Nursing online at Vanderbilt. All her courses are online, she does clinicals at local hospitals and private practices, and flies to Nashville for a long weekend every couple of months. I've been looking for something similar for Computer Science, but can only seem to find programs at scam schools. If it's possible to get the credentials which will give you the ability to suture and prescribe narcotics online, shouldn't computer science be handled similarly?Yes, I am aware of the social implications (e.g. college is a great place to meet people, develop as a person, etc...). I did attend a traditional college, and have about 85 credits. The difficulty is, my business started making money, so I'm too busy to attend scheduled courses. The university wouldn't work with me, at all, so I stopped going. I see value in having a degree, and would like to finish, but iMay 30, 2011 3:28 PM

Why isn't Singapore as entrepreneurial as Israel? [Part 1 - Technology]http://geekomaniac.com/Over the next few days, I hope to publish a 4-part series on answering the question: Why isn't Singapore as entrepreneurial as Israel? It is a mystery, especially for a Singaporean like me. Both nations have limited natural resources, rely heavily on its manpower for its growth. Yet, why is it that the Singapore government is struggling to make its citizen create its own jobs?Back in May 2010, I had the opportunity to embark on a 10-days trip to Israel, to investigate the reasons behind its entrepreneurial economy.Introduction:From my internship stint at the Singapore's Ministry of Trade, I learnt about successful Israel’s Yozma fund, and unsuccessful TIF Ventures in Singapore. Ever since then, I realized that the Singapore government has been mimicking what the Israeli government does. I signed up for Israel BSM to find out the real reasons behind Israel’s booming entrepreneurship ecosystem and why Singapore is not on par. On the 26th April, as I boarded the plane to Tel Aviv, all gearMar 8, 2011 8:32 PM

Ask HN: What is Gravity?https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1629794While watching a documentary that mentioned gravity (forgive me the particulars escape me at the moment) my 8yo son reached across my lap and tapped the space-bar pausing the video. He then turned toward me and asked, ‘what is gravity?’Now, in our house we require explanations for actions because we are becoming, sadly too late in life, convinced that being on purpose is paramount. Because it is our opinion that if you do not understand, even at the most base level (epistemological questions aside), why you are doing something then you will never have any power over what you do. When any of us does something that results in negative consequences we try to be in the habit of either tracing down the root of our reasoning or admitting that we had none.To this end we have made much of the distinction between description and explanation. Briefly; all explanations include description but not the reverse. When we ask one another for an explanation and instead receive only description it has bAug 24, 2010 2:04 PM
