Its software feels heavy and it is full of cash grabs and anti-patterns. It was recently acquired and is sure to only become more hostile to its users as it turns towards profit generation.With this in mind I built t4t, an alternative specially designed for not only queer people, but specifically trans people.It is an extremely lightweight service. I built it with my most ideal stack: Flutter, Svelte, Supabase, Posthog.It has grown in the last year to about 4,000 monthly active users. I think it could grow way beyond that this year.

I've deleted it off of my phone, but now I'm thinking about what makes these games so addicting, and one quality I thought up was that there's never really an "end" to these games. There's always a new objective, always some special event, always some challenge that wasn't there before.When I think about the games I considered truly great (most of them from the N64 era), all of these games had something in common, mainly out of necessity: they had an end. Peach was found, Hyrule was freed, or all of the skaters and parks were unlocked.I realize that this is antithetical to the objective of most mobile games. TLDR; this app lets you create your own list of words and you get a Duolingo-like experience (kind of, still needs a lot of features) practicing those words in their context.My English is not the best but not the worst either. But I realized I can't boost it up after a certain level! In my belief, in order to truly learn a language, you need to be exposed to that language often. Vocabulary is the key factor here if you really want to improve in any language.My experience is that when I read a book to improve my English vocabulary, I encounter words that I don't know so often and my reading gets disturbed. I go look for the meaning, come back, put it in context, re-read it, etc. It didn't work for me. So I tried listening to audiobooks - I listen to the book and read along, and whenever I encounter a word, I write it down. For a data analyst, the work is quite programming heavy actually (e.g. we don't use Excel but Jupyter). But for a software engineer, the amount of programming feels low.
