Show HN: Jolt a decentralised content syndication networkHey HN i’m a platform engineer and my day job I mainly focus on kubernetes clusters and terraform with the occasional C#, Typescript when building services, so this could well be completely out of my depth. Jolt started as an experiment to see whether I could build my own network at all. I’ll also be honest that most of this code was agentically written. Ask HN: Has anyone solved P2P routing at 100B+ nodes without DHT degradation?The two of us (PhD in Physics and Mathematics and Philosophical Anthropology) have spent many years working on a mathematically protected secret voting system suitable for making socially significant decisions. During the design process, we realized that such a system must be a peer-to-peer network satisfying six absolute requirements. We have not been able to find a single existing protocol or academic paper that simultaneously satisfies more than two of them: First: anonymous user authentication that guarantees the uniqueness of the user's representation in the network (preventing one person from creating multiple accounts) without storing their personal data and without using any external resources, such as certificate authorities or a trusted third party. Second: a network providing such anonymous authentication must be capable of covering all inhabitants of the Earth. A 1989 Unix finger protocol prank at UW-MilwaukeeIn 1989, as a CS undergrad at UW-Milwaukee, I had access to a graduate Unix lab. One afternoon, the grad students discovered they could scan the network for users who had accidentally left their .plan files world-writable. For the uninitiated, the finger command let you see who was logged in, and it displayed their local .plan file. Because default security permissions were incredibly relaxed back then, you could sometimes write directly to someone else's file. The grad students wrote a script to append a snarky message mocking the users' permissions: "I AM FAR MOR THAN AN IGNORANT MORON..." Later that night, the lab cleared out. It builds a 3D coverage dome from 30-day history.My receiver has a structure blocking about 30° of the sky, which reduces its range by about 100 km in that direction.The dome is just a mesh to hide a receiver's exact coordinates. On my simple test, GPT-5.6 Sol couldn't narrow down the location more than about 2.5 km in 9 different methods.Also, each aircraft rolls and pitches using real ADS-B data. The protocol does not transmit pitch angle, so it is estimated from the vertical rate.My tiny single receiver is in South Korea, so the local traffic could be very small when people from the other side of the Earth visits. Belkin killed my smart switch. I got it working again without their appI bought a wifi switch from Belkin over 10 years ago, but the app got turned off.I wanted to use the switch to automate my mosquito repellent. Unfortunately it still had my timer running from Christmas, which meant it turned off too early. Now its real!Its a simple open source program written in Rust that listens for outbound connections your computer makes, runs traceroutes on each destination, geolocates each hop and renders in on a 3d globe.The tool (network cartographer) works on linux, mac and windows. Feel free to try it out. I tried making it as frictionless as possible.Beaware this is mostly a for-fun and educational tool. It will naturally be inaccurate as it doesnt show the routes the actual packets take, just the way that traceroute did. Its also limited how much data i could find for the geolocalization.

I designed the idea until it was ready, contracted an offshore dev team, spent several months iterating on the production and then had the unfortunate luck to have the contracting company go out of business while the project was still in a pre alpha stage.How should I rethink my problem space and move forward in this situation? Ask HN: How to get in touch with Paddle (MoR)This isn't really a typical Ask HN, but since my LinkedIn network doesn't get me there, I thought I'd give HN a shot!Paddle, the merchant of record, used to have quite excellent support (widget in their dashboard) which then turned into workable support by e-mail. Now they have added a layer of AI automation whereby any support e-mail receives an automated AI reply to which you have to reply to escalate to a human. Unfortunately that loop is broken. I never get a human into the loop at all (they must be so surprised and happy that their support backlogs have gotten so short!
