Sols 4458-4460: Winter SchminterEarth planning date: Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025 During today’s unusual-for-MSL Tuesday planning day (because of the U.S. holiday on Monday), we planned activities under new winter heating constraints. Operating Curiosity on Mars requires attention to a number of factors — power, data volume, terrain roughness, temperature — that affect rover operability and safety. Winter means […]

3D Printable Bioreactor for Deep Space Food ProductionNASA’s Synthetic Biology Project is turning to the 3D printing experts in the GrabCAD community for ideas and or designs that could lead to the ability to reuse and recycle small scale bioreactors to reduce the mass and volume requirements for deep space missions. Ideally, designs that could be printed using a 3D printer, using […]
NASA Lays Out LEO Sustainability VisionIMAGE

NASA Lays Out LEO Sustainability VisionSpace is an environment that is increasingly intersectional, bringing together issues from across the globe to generate an immense economic and technological powerhouse. It has also cemented itself as a key element in modern global infrastructure, touching every element of contemporary life. To address a rapidly changing space operating environment and ensure its preservation for generations to come, NASA released Volume I of its integrated Space Sustainability Strategy on Tuesday, April 9th at Space Symposium, advancing the agency’s role as a global leader on this crucial issue. This first element, with a focus on Low Earth Orbit activities, will act as a key governing document for US based industry and government operations close to home – a key step in ensuring sustainability best practices as more players enter the fold.
Ask HN: Can I avoid being nuked by Stripe?IMAGE

Ask HN: Can I avoid being nuked by Stripe?I have a Stripe account that has been going along nicely, regular transactions at a steady but moderate pace -- a few transactions a week at a consistent amounts. I'm a one-person-shop, not a developer, and I integrate with Stripe through my invoicing software. I've been building momentum towards a new product launch that will hopefully change that transaction velocity to dozens, hopefully a couple hundred transactions per day, through a storefront. Now, I am concerned that a significant change in velocity/volume like this is going to set off a flag with Stripe, and I fear that my Stripe account will get nuked, kill the launch, all the momentum I've been building, my reputation, and all my regular business to boot -- if I lose access to Stripe I lose a very significant portion of my business. Even if its just for a couple weeks while I'm "being reviewed".There seem to be many threads here on HN about getting killed by Stripe without explanation, without easy recourse, without customer s

Launch HN: Evry Health (YC W18) – Better health insurance for companiesHello Hacker News! Mark, Jay and I are the cofounders of Evry Health (https://evryhealth.com). We are a full-stack health insurance company that reduces premiums by up to 20% for companies while improving the health and wellness of their employees.People and media constantly talk about the problems in our healthcare system: prices are too high; premiums are rising faster than household income; health outcomes are lower than the rest of the developed world; mental health coverage is inadequate; and the lack of transparency and accessibility creates confusion for us all. All these are real problems, but they’re symptoms rather than root causes. We believe the root cause is that the U.S. system is rife with misaligned incentives. For example, the fee-for-service structure incentivizes overuse and volume-based billing, rather than health. Thirty-five cents of every dollar spent goes to clinical waste, unnecessary services, administrative bloat, or fraud. (We could give footnotes, but doubt

Ask HN: How do you protect self-hosted websites from LLM scrapers?Hello HN,I'm considering self-hosting a couple of static low-volume traffic on a VM. I'm curious to know what techniques you using to protect personal and professional websites from abusive LLM (and other) scraping. Assume no CDN is involved.I'm aware of: (1) anubis AI firewall (2) LLM poisoning projects like iocaine (3) bate links hidden in the HTML source code that block IPs when accessed (4) ppl blocking CIDRs of all major Cloud Providers (GCP, AWS, Azure, Alibaba, etc). Are there any other interesting techniques that can be used?Ty!

Show HN: Use GLM-5.3 in Cursor today via tokengo APIHi HN,Hearing a lot of buzz around GLM-5.3, which I expect to be the best open-source coding model with the weights dropping soon, I wanted to test it where I actually do my work.I just mapped GLM-5.3 to TokenGo so I could swap out the base URL and use it directly in my IDE.The backend handles the edge routing via Cloudflare to keep latency low, critical when you're waiting for inline code completions. If you want to try GLM-5.3 (or glm-5.3-flash) in your own workflow, here is the setup. For Cursor:Go to Settings > Models.Add your API key in the OpenAI API Key field.Toggle "Override OpenAI Base URL" and set it to: https://api.tokengo.com/v1Under "Model Names", add z-ai/glm-5.3.Select it in your chat panel dropdown. We're one of the first inference providers to get the GLM 5.3 family online and fully accessible for IDEs. If you'd like to try it in a high volume production workload I'd be happy to provide test keys for yall

Show HN: eInk Optimized Manga with Kindle Comic Converter (+Kobo/KOreader)Kindle Comic Converter optimizes black & white (or color) comics and manga for E-ink ereaders like Kindle, Kobo, ReMarkable, and more. Pages display in fullscreen without margins, with proper fixed layout support. KCC runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.KCC's main goal is maximum image quality at significantly smaller file size. For example, KCC1) can compress a 600 MB manga volume from Humble Bundle to 100 MB. This is mostly accomplished by downscaling to the native resolution of your specific device. This can also improve battery life, page turn speed, and general performance on underpowered ereaders with small memory and storage capacities.2) fixes black levels to avoid gray/faded blacks found in many Kindle Store manga3) fixes the rainbow effect on Kaleido 3 color eink without blur using the Discrete Fourier Transform (community PR)It can also semi-automatically join pre-split 2 page spreads and has several KOreader optimizations as well.
