I thought about maybe using a hosted VPS but I wasn’t keen on the ongoing cost. Then I looked a recently acquired Arduino UNO Q. A weird arduino board that has an arduino on one side and Linux on the other side. The Linux chip can communicate to the arduino chip. The board I have has 4GB of ram and 32GB of storage. Plenty of power to run the Hermes agent client. I never intended to run a local LLM on the arduino. I wanted an isolated machine where I could run it that was more affordable than buying a new computer. The Q offered all of this. Affordable, cheap on power and isolated.So I plugged it in and ssh’d into the board and installed Hermes, setup was pretty straightforward. I connected my ChatGPT subscription and we were in business.The first thing I asked the agent to do was flash a LED on the board, and it did just that.
