Show HN: Ava – AI Voice Agent for Traditional Phone Systems(Python+Asterisk/ARI)Hi HN, I'm the creator of AVA - AI Voice Agent for AsteriskMy repo was shared here once before by someone else so I wanted to follow up with the progress since then.https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46380399I've been working with Asterisk/FreePBX systems for years. I wanted to add AI voice capabilities to legacy phone systems without paying per-minute SaaS fees or ripping out the entire telephony stack. So I built AVA, a self-hosted AI voice agent that can integrate into any traditional phone system. While most solutions demand expensive migrations to cloud-only providers, AVA provides a self-hosted path to connect AI agents to existing phone systems while ensuring data privacy and lowering operational costsAVA is a Dockerized Python app that sits alongside your Asterisk server. It connects via ARI (Asterisk REST Interface) and routes call audio to AI providers — OpenAI Realtime, Deepgram, Google Live API, ElevenLabs, Telnyx, or fully local models (Vosk + llama.cpp + Piper). You can

The Null Pointer Crisis: Running God-Mode Software on Legacy HardwareWe spend a lot of time discussing AI Alignment—how to ensure the machine’s values match ours. But I’d like to open a thread on a parallel issue that seems to be causing a "Kernel Panic" in the current generation (specifically Gen Z and Alpha): The Human Alignment Problem.I approach this not as a psychologist, but from a systems engineering perspective. If we look at the rising rates of anxiety, burnout, and suicide not as "illnesses" but as System Errors, a terrifying architecture flaw emerges.I submit this hypothesis for your review: We are witnessing a fatal mismatch between our Biological Hardware, our Cultural Software, and the Environment we have deployed into production.1. The Legacy Hardware (The 0/1 Tyranny) Our "Mainboard" (the Limbic System) is 500 million years old. It was optimized for a low-latency, high-stakes environment (Savanna). It runs on binary logic: Alive/Dead, Fight/Flight, Zero/One. However, we are running 2026 Software (Social Media, AI, Global Geopolitics) whi

Why I believe some of you and your not-yet-AIs should deal/train with PareidoliaIn your context, it sounds like you're looking at cases where a pattern appears to indicate a mechanism but actually just distracts from real data. This happens in many fields, from sensory processing to statistical modeling and behavioral economics. You said:imagine stucco work, done by a Savant, looks like Pareidolia until someone scans the wall and finds depictions of stories much like those found in 10s of thousands year old caves, just 100000 times more elaborate and detailed to a point technically impossible with the tools needed for stucco work because you'd need femto-adjust pressure on a rather broad and clunky toolsetChatGPT said:That would be an incredible case of embedded complexity within apparent randomness—something that initially seems like noise or illusion (pareidolia) but, under deeper analysis, reveals an underlying structured system beyond known technical capabilities. Some relevant concepts that might help describe this phenomenon: Hyperdimensional Encoding – The i

Ask HN: Where can I ask for code reviews online without being roasted for fun? This may just be a cognitive bias on my side of things, but, I've found that a lot of the time when you ask people you don't work with to review your code, they tend to review it savagely, and with the intent of completely, and absolutely destroying you for "likes", "upvotes", etc.A lot of the time I just want to figure out if I'm going down the right path before I have anything perfect, or breathlessly beautiful to ask for feedback on.A lot of the time, I'm learning a new technology or a new paradigm and don't know what I'm doing, and, asking for help on Reddit or StackOverflow usually just means being roasted. Is there any way to avoid the roasts? Is there a different community everyone goes to?
